Why I built it.

Max Photo Frames started as a personal project: a photographer wanting a better way to frame and caption everyday pictures, and a way to learn how a real app gets built. This is the story of how it grew, and the principle it kept the whole way through.

Value proposition

Turn an ordinary photo into a designed memory without giving up privacy or control.

Max Photo Frames combines frames, captions, on-device subject understanding, dimensional composition and dependable export in one non-destructive iPhone and iPad workflow.

Common questions

Is Max Photo Frames free?

Yes, completely. Max Photo Frames is free for everyone, with no paid tier and nothing locked behind a subscription. If you enjoy it, optional tips help support development, and a rating or review on the App Store is one of the biggest ways to help it reach more people.

Do I need an account to use it?

No. There is no sign-up, no login and no profile on our servers. Your creations, presets and captions live on your device.

Are my photos uploaded anywhere?

No. Subject separation and every other AI-assisted effect run on the device itself, and photos are never sent anywhere for processing. If you switch on the optional iCloud Sync, your saved presets and captions (never your photos) are copied to your own private iCloud account so they appear on your other devices.

The Story

Photography has always been one of my hobbies. Over the years I've captured thousands of photos, family moments, holidays, landscapes and everyday memories. I wanted an app that could present those memories beautifully without subscriptions, watermarks or giving away unnecessary personal data.

Most apps I tried either locked features behind expensive subscriptions or uploaded photos to third-party services. As someone who values privacy, I wanted something different, so I decided to build it myself.

From Vibe Coding to a Real Product

Max Photo Frames began as an experiment using AI-assisted “vibe coding”. As I learned more about iOS development, the project evolved into a properly engineered application with reusable components, improved architecture, performance optimisation and a polished user experience.

Project Vision

Privacy-first creativity for everyone.

The goal is to keep the core application free so anyone can create beautiful framed memories. The ambition is to make Max Photo Frames the number-one free photo-framing app on the App Store. Rather than subscriptions, the project will be supported through optional tips from users who want to contribute to ongoing development.
